Top Pittwater Locations - Which is Your Favourite? One of our favorite Pittwater Locations is the Basin (Coasters Retreat)View Larger Map The Basin is a stunning spot. It's essentially a flat, open grassy area surrounded by towering, unspoiled Ku-rin-gai National Park.
The beach to the West of the Basin is great for kids. It's protected by a shark net and has a gently sloping gradient. Our kids are more than happy to spend hours messing around here swimming and running through the shallow water. If you are a good swimmer (or you have a kayak) it's around 500m to the far end. Make the effort... and you're rewarded with stunning scenery, peace and tranquility. Other great Pittwater LocationsHere's some other stunning places to visit on your Pittwater yacht charter Morning Bay, Patonga Portugese Beach, Barrenjoey Lighthouse, Smiths Creek and America and Refuge Bays. On the South side the bay is filled with club moorings and offers another fantastic beach and swim ground. If you stop at the Basin on your Pittwater Yacht Charter you'll get good protection from South East, South, West, and North west winds. It's a bit open to North East and tends to cop the strong South Westerlies unless you anchor right up at the head of the bay. The Basin is one of the best Pittwater locations to visit at if you have friends joining you for a day sail.
The ferry service from Palm Beach runs hourly to drop your guests off. The basin walking track is a 40 min (one way) and is moderately steep. (Take a water bottle with you in summer). Approximately half way along the track you get spectacular views to the North East over Barrenjoey Lighthouse and Broken Bay. And at the top you'll see one of Sydney's best examples of Aboriginal rock engravings. This site was obviously of major significance to the original custodians of the area. It is though it was possibly a initiation site for young males or birthing site. The Basin is the only designated camping ground in The Ku-rin-gai Chase National Park. It does get very busy in the summer - especially at weekends. In the shoulder or winter seasons you can have the whole place to yourself especially mid-week. At quieter times of year you'll see Rock Wallabies and Goannas lazing around the park. For more information about camping at the Basin head here. All in all a great week and we look forward to coming back some time in the future.
