Our Pittwater yacht charter base at Bayview Anchorage Marina is marked at the bottom in blue.

As you can see you can sail up Pittwater without restrictions.

It’s always interesting sail round the back of Scotland Island and check out the waterfront properties and the yachts moored in the bays.

Great Pittwater Locations like The Basin and Portugese Beach are good swimming and lunch stops.

As you reach the top of Pittwater you’ll see a blue line on the map.

You need to stay West of this line on bareboat yacht charters.

If you book a skippered yacht charter you can go whale watching on the ocean or take a trip down to Sydney Harbour on a catamaran yacht charter.

Heading left around West Head you enter Broken Bay. This is an excellent open sailing area.

Patonga on your right is a top yacht charter spot to enjoy lunch.

Then on your left the world class anchorage of Refuge and America’s Bay is a safe overnight anchorage.

You can turn right and head down the Hawkesbury river and motor round Dangar Island.

It gets a bit shallow here and you need to take note of the port and starboard channel markers.

You can’t go under Hawkesbury

River Railway Bridge – there’s not enough clearance for your yacht’s mast!

On the other side of Broken Bay, Cowan, Smith’s and Coal and Candle Creek offer deep protected rivers to explore.

This area is incredibly peaceful and there are numerous public moorings to choose from.

See maps here for Lower Hawkesbury (Patonga, Berwora and Mooney Mooney Creeks) and Mid Hawkesbury (Spencer to Wiseman)

The customised Map of Pittwater near Sydney in Australia above shows you how many public moorings you’ll find in each spot.
