Yacht Charter Pittwater – Check Out Your Experience

For your bareboat yacht charter, Pittwater you don’t need formal qualifications.

But you should be able to answer ‘yes’ to the following questions.

  • Preparation for sea
    Be able to prepare a yacht for sea, including basic engine checks, select sails, secure and stow gear above and below decks.
  • Deck work
    Know how to reef and shake out reefs to change sail area to suit prevailing conditions, prepare an anchor and mooring lines, take control when coming to anchor or mooring buoy and when leaving, steer and trim sails on all points of sailing, steer compass course under power and sail, tack and gybe with control in all conditions.
  • Navigation
    Have knowledge of charts and chart symbols, navigational markers, use of depth sounder, log(speed) and wind instruments.
  • Meteorology
    Know source of weather forecasts and be able to interpret them.
  • Rules of the road
    Know who has right of way under sail and power.
  • Emergency procedures
    Know how to pick up a person overboard and when to use distress signals
  • Personal safety gear
    Understand when and how to use life jackets.
  • Ropework
    Have knowledge of coiling, stowing and securing ropes to cleats. Be able to tie the following knots: bowline, figure of eight, clove hitch.
  • Fire precautions
    Be aware of the hazards of fire and the precautions necessary to prevent fire. Know what action to be taken in the event of fire.

If, in the opinion of Smart Boating, a charterer is not suitably experienced to skipper a yacht, the charterer shall agree to employ a guide at his/her expense or cancel the charter and forfeit any monies paid for the charter.
