Yacht Charter Australia brings you

Your SmartYacht Charter Sydney Guide

Your Yacht Charter Sydney promises excitement and stunning natural beauty

There is no doubt Sydney harbour is one of the most beautiful waterways in the world.

It comprises 54 square kms of sheltered tidal water, with so many bays and inlets that it's foreshores measure 245 km!

And thanks to recent measures to reduce pollution - the water is beautifully clear.

Old Skiff Race Sydney Harbour

Most Sydney yacht charters start from Rushcutters bay (a short bus or taxi ride from Sydney's CBD) or Darling harbour (on the monorail line).

If you are a large group on a skippered charter some companies can arrange to pick you up from Circular Quay.

No Yacht Charter in Sydney is complete without a cruise under the Harbour Bridge past Sydney Opera House.

Because this is a busy area you must be sure to keep to the right as you pass under the bridge.

If you are heading downstream with the Opera house on your Starboard side watch for ferries coming out of circular quay - they have right of way over you!

Old Skiff Race Sydney Harbour

Heading further downstream you pass historic Fort Dennison a former penal site and defensive facility (leave it to your port side).

These days Fort Dennison is a restaurant and museum (with great views of the New Years Eve fireworks if you have spare cash to spend!)

Athol Bay with Sydney's Taronga Zoo above it soon comes up on the port side of the channel.

This is a great place to anchor for lunch unless a Southerly is blowing. You get great views looking back towards the opera house and bridge.

There are a few public moorings here. (Sydney's locals are notoriously protective about their moorings - we suggest you anchor unless a public mooring is available).

As you make your way down the South shore of the harbour you'll see some stunning multi-million dollar homes lining Double Bay, Rose Bay and Watson's Bay.

The North shore of the harbour is very different as it is mostly National Park. Taylor's bay offers a lovely sheltered anchorage.

As you get near to the heads there is often 1m or more swell- bear this in mind that if you have inexperienced or nervous crew members. Your charter yacht will ride the waves with no problems... but you crew might not!

It's well worth a cruise down middle harbour towards the Spit Bridge past Balmoral and Clontarf.
